Sheet Metal Bending Machine: Standardized Operation and Safety Guide

Application Scope

Operation Procedures

  1. Start the oil pump by turning on the power switch and the key switch. You will hear the sound of the pump rotating.

  2. Adjust stroke: Before putting into use, a test run is required. If the upper die is moving down, you should leave a certain amount of clearance between the thickness of the plates. Otherwise, the machine and die will be damaged. The two steps of stroke adjustment are quick electric adjusting, and manual fine tuning.

  3. Selecting the Notch: In general, select the notch that is 8 times the width of the plate. If the plate is 4mm wide, then you should select a 32mm notch.

  4. Backgauge Adjustment Method is the same as press brake. It includes quick electric adjustment and manual fine tuning.

  5. The shearing machine works differently. Release the pedal switch and the machine will stop working. You can also press and stamp the pedal switch.

Rules for Safety Operation

  1. Wear the necessary protective clothing according to the safety regulations.

  2. Before starting the machine, check that the motor, switch and wire connections, as well as the operation section and button, are all in good working order.

  3. Check the contact ratio, solidity and if the positioning devices meet the machining requirements.

  4. If the upper slide plate or positioning axes do not match their original state, run back to the original procedure.

  5. After starting the machine, run the upper slide plate at full stroke for 2-3 times. After eliminating all potential malfunctions, return to normal operation. Otherwise, immediately stop the machine for service.

  6. It is best to have one commander, and close coordination between the operator and feeder.

  7. If the sheet perks and injures the worker, it is important to compact the sheet before bending.

  8. When adjusting the sheeting die, you must turn off the power.

  9. No material may contact the lower die when changing the slot.

  10. When the machine is in operation, it is not allowed to stand behind the machine.

  11. It is forbidden to bend on one side.

  12. Stop the machine immediately if you find that a workpiece or die is not aligned. If you hurt your fingers, it is forbidden to correct manually.

  13. In case the machine is damaged, it’s best to avoid bending steel plates that are overly thick, ultra-thick, or chilled, as well as high alloy steels, squares, and super thick steels.

  14. Check the contact ratio between the upper and lower dies, and the pressure gauge to ensure it is in compliance with the standards.

  15. Shut down immediately when an exception occurs, and perform timely inspections and maintenance.

  16. To protect the oil cylinder, place a wooden block on the lower die. Drop the upper die into the wood block before closing the machine.

  17. Cut off power first, and then exit control system.

Maintenance and Care

Check each fastener, the electric switch, the cable, and the die installation before starting the machine. Close the machine and lower die before cleaning or maintenance. Switch the upper die to manual operation for starting or other operations.

Maintenance scope includes

CategoryMaintenance Actions
1. Hydraulic Oil LineAfter hydraulic system maintenance, or every week, check the oil level. Add hydraulic fluid if the hydraulic fluid reaches the fluid window. Replace hydraulic fluid in new machines after 2000 hours of use. After that, every 4000-6000 hrs, clean and replace fluid. Keep the hydraulic fluid temperature between 35 and 60 degrees Fahrenheit.
2. FilterWhen changing hydraulic fluid, replace or thoroughly clean the filters. Replace the filter when the filter emits abnormal alarms or if the fluid becomes dirty. Replace the air filter after one year, or at least every three months.
3. Hydraulic PartsMonthly clean hydraulic parts (baseplates, valves, motors, pumps, fluid pipes, etc.). To prevent dirt from entering the system. After one month, check if the hydraulic tube has deformed. Replace it immediately if there is an exception. After two months of use, tighten all connections.
4. Regular InspectionsBefore operation, perform daily visual inspections. Check all hydraulic connections weekly for leaks. Check all electrical components monthly for proper functioning. Perform a complete system check every quarter.
5. LubricantsLubricate moving parts as per the manufacturer’s instructions. Grease guide rails and bearings at least once a month. All pivot points should be lubricated properly.
6. Emergency MaintenanceAlways keep spare parts for critical components on hand. Document maintenance activities as well as unexpected issues. If you need technical assistance, contact the manufacturer.
